Montauk from Brazil has a basic grey-green colour with a natural cleft (riven) but relatively smooth riven surface.
Natural Cleft is a finish achieved when layered stones (usually slate or sandstone) are split, or cleft, leaving a naturally rough surface which is uneven and varied.
Note: Montauk is a stratified stone, therefore the edges lay notched to some extent. It is also possible that the surface scales off after being cleaned a few times; this ends once the hard core of the stone has been reached.
